Geek Out: Metro Survive (Manga)

Metro Survive is a manga about a group of people who must survive after an earthquake traps them all underground. Centred around Mishima, a maintenance man for a shoddy newly constructed building, going from being a bit of a wuss to a capable leader.

The story is well constructed with a nice twist halfway through. This was my first time reading a survival manga so I have no idea if it follows any overdone tropes, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it from start to finish. The ending is good as well but saying more than that will spoil it.

The characters are amazing. Many of them developed an incredible amount by the end of the 16 chapter manga. The development never seems rushed and the author seems to have thought deeply about how different people may change during a time of distress.

The art is great in my opinion. It is easy to read and doesn’t seem too crowded or minimalistic.

Overall Metro Survive is a great manga and thanks to it I will definitely consider checking out more survival manga in the future.

Note: This manga is fairly clean but there is some violence as well as reference to mature content (though nothing is actually shown).

Geek Out: Quan Zhi Gao Shou (anime)

Quan Zhi Gao Shou is a Chinese anime. However, if you are thinking “ugh Chinese anime are lame Japanese anime is way better”, in this case you are wrong. Quan Zhi Gao Shou has great art, music, plot, and characters. It is captivating and well made.

If you want to read a synopsis of the show check out myanimelist.

When I first tried to watch this anime I didn’t know it was a Chinese anime the first ten minutes or so confused me to no end. However, once I realized they sounded like they were talking while chewing gum because they were speaking Chinese instead of Japanese I was able to thoroughly enjoy the show.

The action scenes are fluid and entertaining. The main character Ye Xiu has been described as Kirito from SAO’s older and way cooler brother. Ye Xiu is an intelligent pro gamer who was forced into retirement because he refused to do advertising deals. The plot and characters keep the show fresh and interesting.

This review is based on the first six episodes of the show but I got really excited and felt the need to write this Geek Out. I’m not going to bother proof reading this post because I want to go back and see what happens next. See ya next time!chin1x

Geek Out: Erased (Anime)

This is my first Geek out. This Category of blog posts is a place where I take anything I am extremely excited about and I write about it. It could be a movie, tv show, something cool I learned, an event I went to, pretty much anything that I can write about enthusiastically. This segment will probably include a lot of anime, books, and movies but I hope you will enjoy reading about it just as much as I enjoyed experiencing everything that makes me Geek out.

“Erased” is an absolutely amazing anime. This seinen/mystery/etc. anime takes twelve episodes and weaves an absolutely beautiful mystery surrounding a young man named Fujinuma, Satoru and his desperate attempt to stop a serial killer from his past who seems to target young girls.

Satoru has an ability which forces him back in time to prevent bad things from happening. He can’t control when it happens but when he is sent back he begins to instinctively search for what is about to go wrong so that he can prevent it. I don’t want to give too much of the plot away but basically due to something that happens in present day, he is reminded of the serial killings that happened in his hometown and he is sent back in time to when he was ten in order to stop the killer and save everyone.

The anime has great art, interesting characters, and a plot that got me so excited I was almost ready to jump out of my chair and yell at my screen during a few of the episodes. So, if you’re in the mood for an anime with a bit more substance but that isn’t just one toturous blood bath after another “Erased” is for you.

Note: The subject is probably not the best for children but we don’t see much blood or the actual murders (think Detective Conan as a decent comparison). However, there is some child abuse so anyone who is sensitive to such things may not want to watch this. Parental Guidance and Viewer discretion is advised.
